Kenya Met Lists Select Areas to Receive Rainfall in the First Week of February

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has published a list of areas likely to receive rainfall in the first week of February.

In its five-day forecast released on Friday, January 30, 2026, Kenya Met issued a weather update covering the period from Saturday, January 31 to Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

According to the forecast, most parts of the country are expected to be sunny and dry. However, light to moderate rainfall is likely in a few areas in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin.

Kenya Met Names Select Areas to Receive Rainfall

The department noted that in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley, mornings may experience rainfall in a few places, while afternoons are likely to see showers and thunderstorms in isolated areas during the five days. Sunny intervals are expected on Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4.

Night-time showers are expected in a few places, except on Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4, when nights will be partly cloudy.

Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Environs

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which include Nairobi and its environs, afternoons are expected to have sunny intervals, with light showers forecast on Saturday, January 31. The rest of the forecast period will experience sunny intervals only.

Nights in this region will be partly cloudy throughout the forecast period.

Besides Nairobi County, other areas in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

In the North Eastern region, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, sunny intervals are expected in both the mornings and afternoons, while nights will be partly cloudy.

For the North Western region, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny intervals are forecast in the mornings and afternoons, with partly cloudy nights.

South Eastern and Coast Region

In the South Eastern lowlands, comprising Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta counties, and inland parts of Tana River County, both mornings and afternoons will experience sunny intervals, while nights will be partly cloudy.

In the Coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, sunny intervals are expected during the mornings and afternoons, with partly cloudy nights.
