Kenya Met Lists Regions Expected to Receive Rainfall This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced regions expected to receive rainfall during the week of June 30 to July 6, 2026, with showers forecast over parts of western, central, and coastal Kenya.
In a forecast dated June 30, 2026, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected over the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the Coast.
It also predicted intermittent cool and cloudy conditions in several regions, while some parts of northern Kenya are expected to experience high daytime temperatures.
“Rainfall is expected over the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the Coast. Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley & Northeastern Kenya,” read part of the forecast.
Kenya Met Says Rainfall Will Continue in Western, Central, and Coastal Kenya
According to Kenya Met, rainfall is forecast in the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley, and Coast.
Weatherman further revealed that residents in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley should expect occasional morning rains, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely over a few places.
Partly cloudy nights are expected, though some areas may also receive showers at night.

These regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Narok.
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Kenya, the Met said mornings are likely to be cloudy with occasional rain over a few places before giving way to sunny intervals.
In addition, afternoon and night showers are also expected in isolated areas.
These parts include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi counties.
Coastal Regions Set to Experience Isolated Showers
Kenya Met also highlighted that the Coast is expected to experience sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy conditions at night.
However, morning and afternoon showers may occur in a few places across Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and the Tana Delta within the week.
Northwestern Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu counties, is expected to experience sunny intervals during the day with partly cloudy nights and a possibility of morning rain in a few places.
In Northeastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, sunny conditions are expected during the day, followed by partly cloudy nights.
Kenya Met also forecasts daytime temperatures of more than 30°C in parts of the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya.
Among the highest forecast temperatures are:
- Lodwar – 36°C
- Mandera – 36°C
- Garissa – 34°C
- Wajir – 33°C
- Voi – 32°C
- Mombasa – 31°C

Cold Nights Expected in Some Regions
The department said minimum temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the Highlands, east of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and areas around Mount Kilimanjaro.
Some of the coldest locations this week include:
- Nyahururu – 5°C
- Laikipia – 9°C
- Nyeri – 9°C
- Eldoret – 9°C
- Kericho – 9°C
Meanwhile, Nairobi is also expected to record temperatures ranging between 12°C and 27°C during the week.
