Kenya Met Lists Areas to Experience Rainfall Over the Weekend Amid Dry Conditions

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has listed areas expected to receive rainfall over the weekend, even as most parts of the country remain generally dry. In its weather forecast for the period between Friday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Kenya Met said most regions are likely to experience dry weather, with rainfall mainly expected in parts of the Coast and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
The department also forecast intermittent cool and cloudy conditions in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley, and North-eastern Kenya.
Areas in Western Kenya and the Rift Valley to Receive Rain
According to Kenya Met, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley will experience sunny intervals during the mornings from Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21. Thereafter, there will be a chance of rain in a few places.

Afternoons are expected to be marked by showers in some areas throughout the forecast period, while nights will mostly experience a chance of showers. However, Saturday and Sunday nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
The affected counties include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
In the North-western region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings and afternoons will experience sunny intervals throughout the forecast period, while nights will remain partly cloudy.
Kenya Met Forecast for Nairobi and its Surroundings
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its surrounding areas, Kenya Met forecasts a chance of light rain in a few places on Friday morning.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are expected to be cloudy before giving way to sunny intervals. The rest of the forecast period will see a chance of rain in a few places during the mornings.
On Friday afternoon, a few areas may experience showers. Saturday and Sunday afternoons will be mostly sunny, while the remaining days will have a chance of showers in some places.
Nights are expected to remain partly cloudy, except on Friday and Monday when a few places may receive showers.
Counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.
North-eastern and South-eastern Regions
In the North-eastern region, which comprises Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, mornings will largely be sunny. However, a few areas may receive rain on Monday.
Afternoons will also be mostly sunny, except on Saturday and Sunday when isolated showers are expected in some places.
Meanwhile, the South-eastern Lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, will experience sunny intervals during mornings and afternoons throughout the forecast period. Nights will remain partly cloudy.
Coast Region to Receive Most Rainfall
The Coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties as well as the Tana Delta, is expected to receive the most rainfall during the forecast period.
According to Kenya Met, mornings will be dominated by showers in a few places, while afternoons and nights will also experience a chance of showers in some areas.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to keep track of daily weather updates as conditions may change during the forecast period.
