Kenya Met Issues Warning on Heavy Rains and Dropping Night Temperatures

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a five-day weather outlook indicating a mix of rainfall, sunshine and cool conditions across different parts of the country.
In the forecast covering June 6 to June 10, 2026, the department projects rainfall in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, sections of the Rift Valley, and the Coast.
At the same time, it expects cool and cloudy conditions in parts of the Highlands, the South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and North-eastern Kenya.
Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin will begin the period with light morning rains in a few areas over the weekend.
Later in the day, showers and thunderstorms will develop before easing into clearer conditions.
From Monday, the region will transition into sunny intervals, although a slight chance of afternoon showers will remain.
Temperatures will stay moderate, with daytime highs between 29°C and 30°C and night-time lows ranging from 10°C to 13°C.
Kenya Met Reports Highlands East to Experience Cool Cloudy Mornings
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Murang’a, Nyeri, and Kiambu counties, mornings will remain cloudy before gradually clearing into sunny intervals.
A few areas may receive light showers on Saturday, but most of the period will remain dry. Daytime temperatures will range between 25°C and 26°C, while night-time temperatures will drop as low as 6°C.
Northern Regions to Remain Hot and Dry
North-western and north-eastern Kenya, including Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, and Garissa, will continue to experience hot and dry conditions throughout the forecast period.
These areas will record daytime temperatures of up to 37°C, with sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy skies at night.
South Eastern Lowlands to See Occasional Showers
In the south-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, and Kajiado, residents will experience cloudy mornings that gradually give way to sunny afternoons.
Between Saturday and Monday, a few areas may receive occasional showers. Temperatures will range between 29°C and 31°C during the day.
Coastal Region to Remain Wet
Along the Coast, rainfall will persist throughout the five-day period, affecting mornings, afternoons, and nights in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu counties.
Temperatures will remain warm and stable, with highs between 30°C and 31°C and lows of 22°C to 23°C.
The Kenya Met advises the public to follow daily updates for more accurate forecasts and timely planning. It also encourages residents to access county-specific forecasts through regional meteorological offices.
The outlook highlights a varied weather pattern across the country, with rainfall supporting some regions while others continue to experience dry and hot conditions.
