Weatherman Warns of Rain, Cool Weather in Nairobi and Several Counties in New Forecast

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has listed counties expected to receive rainfall from Sunday, August 2, to Thursday, August 6, 2026, as cool and cloudy conditions persist in several parts of the country.

In a five-day weather forecast issued on July 31, 2026, the Department said intermittent cool and cloudy conditions will affect parts of Nairobi, Kisii, Kericho, Kajiado, Baringo, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Machakos, Kitui, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Isiolo and Wajir counties.

The Department said several counties will receive rainfall during the forecast period, with areas expected to experience light and moderate showers at different times of the day.

Along the Coast, counties including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu will record light showers on some mornings, followed by sunny intervals in the afternoons.

The areas will also experience partly cloudy nights throughout the forecast period.

Coastal temperatures will remain warm, with maximum temperatures ranging between 28°C and 31°C.

Kenya Met Forecasts Afternoon Rainfall in Western Counties

In Western Kenya, counties such as Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Vihiga and Bungoma will receive rainfall during the five-day period.

Kenya Met forecasts light to moderate showers in several areas, with some counties expected to experience afternoon rainfall.

Some parts of Rift Valley will also receive rainfall, including Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and West Pokot.

Nandi will receive light rains in the morning and moderate showers in the afternoon on Sunday, while parts of Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu will also record moderate showers during the week.

Rift Valley Areas to Receive Rainfall

The Department also forecast rainfall in parts of the Rift Valley, including Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru and Laikipia.

Kericho will experience light and moderate showers throughout the forecast period, while Bomet will record light and moderate showers at different times.

Central Counties to Experience Cool Conditions

Meanwhile, counties in the Central region, including Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, and Nyandarua, will continue experiencing cool conditions, with cloudy to sunny intervals expected.

Murang’a will record maximum temperatures ranging between 19°C and 20°C, while minimum temperatures will remain at about 13°C throughout the forecast period.

Nyeri will experience maximum temperatures of between 21°C and 22°C, with minimum temperatures ranging between 12°C and 14°C.

Nyandarua will record some of the lowest temperatures in the country, with minimum temperatures expected to range between 7°C and 9°C.

The county will also receive moderate showers on Sunday afternoon and light showers on some other days.

Temperatures to Vary Across the Country

Across the country, temperatures will vary significantly during the forecast period.

Northern counties will record some of the highest temperatures, with Mandera expected to reach a maximum of 37°C, while Garissa and Wajir will record maximum temperatures of about 34°C.

On the other hand, Marsabit will experience cooler conditions, with maximum temperatures ranging between 24°C and 25°C and minimum temperatures between 14°C and 15°C.

In Nairobi, temperatures will range between 22°C and 24°C during the day, while minimum temperatures will remain between 12°C and 13°C.

Kisii will record maximum temperatures ranging between 27°C and 29°C, with minimum temperatures ranging between 13°C and 16°C.

Additionally, northern counties will mostly experience sunny intervals and partly cloudy nights.

However, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Wajir will continue recording cooler conditions, with Isiolo’s minimum temperatures ranging between 17°C and 19°C.
