Kenya Met Predicts Rainfall in Several Counties in the Fist Week of August

The Kenya Meteorological Service (Kenya Met) has predicted rainfall in several counties as most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry from August 4 to August 10, 2026.
In a weather forecast dated August 4, Kenya Met said residents in parts of western Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Central Highlands are likely to experience rainfall, while intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are also expected in several counties.
“Most parts of the country are expected to be generally dry. However, some counties including Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Kericho, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Murang’a may receive rainfall,” read part of the forecast.
Kenya Met Reveals Counties Likely to Receive Rain This Week
According to the forecast, rainfall is expected in parts of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Murang’a counties.
Kenya Met stated that morning rainfall is likely to be experienced in Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Baringo, Uasin Gishu and Turkana counties.
Meanwhile, morning showers are expected in parts of Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa, while intermittent morning cloudiness accompanied by light rain is forecast in Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Nakuru, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Marsabit and Wajir counties.

The department further stated that afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be experienced in Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Samburu, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga and West Pokot counties.
In addition, Kenya Met noted that night showers may occur in Bungoma, Embu, Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Meru, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu and West Pokot counties.
Cool Conditions and Low Temperatures To Be Experienced This Week
Furthermore, the department said intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Nakuru, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Marsabit and Wajir counties.

Kenya Met also predicted night-time average temperatures of below 10°C in parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties.
However, despite the cool conditions in some parts of the country, the weatherman said daytime temperatures of more than 30°C are likely in much of Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Turkana counties.
Among the towns expected to record the highest temperatures are Mandera and Wajir, each forecast to reach 37°C, followed by Lodwar at 36°C and Garissa at 34°C.
