Best Kenyan Universities for Education Degrees in 2026

Share

Kenya’s higher education sector includes a robust and diverse number of postsecondary institutions providing high quality academic programs.

Education degrees are foundational for those planning careers as primary, secondary, or specialized subject teachers, as well as for roles in educational leadership, curriculum development, research, and policy.

The Commission for University Education (CUE) in Kenya accredits and approves these programmes, ensuring that degree holders meet national professional standards.

Teacher preparation is ultimately a critical element in developing the current and future education workforce in Kenya to achieve the following goals set by the Kenyan government: improve literacy rates; enhance the quality of STEM education; and provide technology skills for use within the school environment.

Many universities also offer Education Science, Arts with Education, Special Needs Education, and Guidance and Counselling tracks within their education degree offerings.

Deciding Which University to Attend for Education

When thinking about what university you want to attend in Kenya for your bachelor of education, there are many things you should take into account, such as:

  • Accredited/approved by CUE- You will want to find out whether or not the bachelor of education that you want to complete at the university you are considering has been approved by the CUE.
  • Any specialisation options like special needs education, Guidance and Counseling or technology education that may be offered by that particular school;
  • The reputation of the school and the results-the reputation of a public research university such as UoN and the calibre of the other universities available in that area (for example, KU) have a tendency to be viewed as solid choices because of their long-standing reputations, as well as their extensive academic networks, and their students have good employability after graduation;
  • Location of university and its facilities-the location where you will be doing your practical work will also affect your experience at the university.
