A mother’s nearly year-long search for her missing daughter took a turn after a social media post by Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) led to a possible breakthrough.
The woman, a resident of Lindi in Kibra, Lang’ata Constituency, has been searching for her daughter since March 2025, when the young woman disappeared from their home under unclear circumstances.
Since then, the mother, identified as Ms. Kwamboka, has combed children’s homes, orphanages, and funeral facilities across Nairobi County, following up on every lead despite repeated setbacks.
The breakthrough came on February 2, 2026, when KNH shared a photograph of an unidentified African woman on its social media platforms in a bid to trace her family.
As the image circulated widely online, Ms. Kwamboka came across the post during her daily search and immediately recognised the woman as her missing daughter.

Ms. Kwamboka travelled to Kenyatta National Hospital on February 3, 2026, after confirming that the woman in the online poster was indeed her missing daughter.
Upon seeing her daughter in person, months of uncertainty gave way to an emotional reunion, ending nearly a year of anguish. The moment, marked by tears and relief, was witnessed by KNH’s Head of Medical Social Work, Mr. Kelwon Kandie.
Mr. Kandie said the young woman had been admitted to the hospital on September 25, 2025, after being rescued along Hospital Road by a well-wisher.
With no identification documents and no known relatives, she was registered as an unidentified patient and placed under the hospital’s care.
“She was admitted as an unidentified patient after being rescued by a good Samaritan and has since been receiving treatment and support at the hospital,” Mr. Kandie said.
He further disclosed that during her stay at the facility, the young woman gave birth on November 17, 2025, adding a new dimension to the case as the family begins to rebuild amid lingering uncertainty.

What began as a search for a missing daughter ended in something more: a reunion that also introduced a grandmother to her grandchild for the first time.
Tears streamed down Ms. Lilian Nyaboke’s face as she held her daughter and grandchild together.
“I don’t have anything to pay KNH,” she said softly, “but may God bless you for taking care of my child and my grandchild.”
The family expressed deep gratitude to everyone who shared the social media post that made the reunion possible.
Hospital officials also highlighted the importance of community support in tracing families of unidentified patients.
“At KNH, healing goes beyond medicine. It is found in restoring dignity, reuniting families, and reminding us all that even in the darkest moments, hope can still find its way home.”
