Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has escaped what county officials described as a potentially fatal road accident after sustaining a heel tendon injury while attending an international meeting in Nairobi on Wednesday, February 18.

In a statement, the Murang’a County Government confirmed that the governor tripped during an official engagement and injured his heel tendons.

Though the incident was not life-threatening, medical assessment advised him to take time off physical duties to allow for full recovery.

According to the county, the incident occurred while the governor was attending a meeting organised by Nutrition International, a Canadian government-supported organisation that partners with counties on nutrition and public health programmes.

“Murang’a County Government wishes to inform the public that H.E. Gov. Irungu Kang’ata was today attending a Nutritional International meeting in Nairobi when he unfortunately tripped and sustained an injury to his heel tendons,” the county said in a statement.

The county clarified that the governor is currently undergoing treatment and remains in stable condition.

“However, official meetings via online will continue as from coming Monday,” the county stated.
