Kenya Met Forecasts Heavy Rainfall in Several Regions Over the Next Seven Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a seven-day weather forecast, warning of continued rainfall and variable temperatures across several parts of the country.

In a statement dated February 24, 2026, Kenya Met highlighted areas likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall and temperature fluctuations.

“Rains are expected to continue over several parts of the country,” the department noted.

Kenya Met Lists Areas to Experience Heavy Rainfall

According to the forecast, isolated heavy rainfall events may occur in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, Coast, Western, and North-western Kenya.

In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, morning rains are likely over a few places, while afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in several areas.

Night showers may occur occasionally, spreading to more places. Counties expected to be affected within these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.

In North-western Kenya, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy nights and minimal rainfall.

In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, morning cloudiness will give way to sunny intervals, with afternoon showers over a few places spreading to more areas. Nights will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers possible. Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.

Weather Forecast for Other Regions

Elsewhere, in North-eastern Kenya, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy nights.

In the South-eastern Lowlands, covering Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland Tana River counties, morning rains are expected along with afternoon and night showers over a few places, particularly in Kajiado, Machakos, Makueni, and Taita-Taveta. Kitui and the inland Tana River are expected to have sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy nights.

Along the Coast, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and Tana Delta counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day and partly cloudy nights. Kwale County may experience morning and night showers during the first half of the forecast period.

Kenya Met further stated that temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya, while cooler nights with temperatures below 10°C may occur in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro.
