The Government has announced plans to repatriate more than 500,000 Kenyan nationals currently residing in the Middle East following escalating tensions in the Iran-Israel conflict.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs assured the public that the safety and well-being of Kenyan citizens in the region remain a top priority.
“Amidst this conflict, the Government, through the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, wishes to assure the public that the safety and well-being of the more than 500,000 Kenyan nationals residing and working in the Middle East remains a matter of top priority,” said the Ministry.
Seven days into the conflict, the Ministry reported that no casualties or injuries involving Kenyan nationals have been recorded, and most continue with their daily activities, either in person or remotely, depending on local circumstances.
The Ministry advised citizens wishing to leave the region to make arrangements through available commercial airlines or licensed travel agents.

It stated that Kenya Airways has already begun using safe air corridors, negotiated with relevant authorities, to facilitate the repatriation of stranded nationals.
The Government also acknowledged the impact of the conflict on Kenyan exporters to the Middle East. Officials said they are working closely with Kenya Airways and other carriers to facilitate cargo flights and secure special permits for the export of perishable goods.
Affected members of the business community were urged to remain patient as these efforts continue.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi stressed that all Kenyan missions in the region have activated emergency and contingency response mechanisms, including evacuation plans should the situation deteriorate.

Citizens are encouraged to register with their respective embassies and consulates and make use of the 24-hour emergency helplines provided.
The Ministry further urged all Kenyan nationals in the affected countries to remain vigilant, follow guidance from host governments, and take precautions to ensure their safety.
It stated that the State Department for Diaspora Affairs continues to operate a 24-hour emergency center to assist Kenyan nationals in the Middle East. Citizens can reach the center via phone at +254 207887600 or +254 114757002, with services also available through WhatsApp.
At the same time, Kenya has called on all parties involved in the conflict to de-escalate tensions and return to diplomatic negotiations in the spirit of constructive dialogue. The Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens and maintaining national interests while monitoring developments closely.
