President William Ruto has directed relevant agencies dealing with road safety and enforcement to urgently address cases of traffic violations in the country in the wake of a fatal accident in Webuye, Bungoma County.

Ruto sent his condolences to families who lost loved ones in a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday night in Webuye.

He also sent his sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the tragic accident while wishing a quick recovery for those who were injured in the accident.

“Our condolences to the families of the victims of the horrible accident in Webuye, Bungoma County, that occurred last night,” President Ruto said in a statement.

President Sends Condolences to Victims’ Families

In his message, the Head of State recognized the pain felt by the families that lost their loved ones in the accident and encouraged them to be strong during this challenging period.

“May God give strength to the affected families to bear with the loss. We also wish speedy recovery to those injured,” Ruto added.

The statement by the President came as the emergency response teams and the government were assessing the effects of the accident, which left some people dead and others injured.

The victims were taken to various medical facilities for treatment as the police began investigating the accident.

Road accidents have remained a significant problem in Kenya, with the government on many occasions blaming the problem on the violations that drivers commit on the road, such as speeding, reckless overtaking, and the failure to follow road safety guidelines.

This directive is also a call to action for key agencies in the country, such as the traffic police, to ensure that the laws already in place are being observed by motorists on the road.

There have been many calls from key players in the transport sector to ensure that there is better enforcement and awareness to reduce the growing rate of accidents in the country.

Renewed Focus on Road Safety

The Webuye accident is just one in a series of recent road tragedies that have raised national concern regarding the safety of our highways and rural roads alike.

Many a times, motorists and operators of public service vehicles have been put on the spot to ensure that they drive in strict adherence to traffic laws.

As the government continues to investigate the Webuye tragedy, the renewed focus on traffic enforcement is also likely to play a crucial role in ensuring that we do not lose any more lives on our roads.
