Ruto Renews Attack on Gideon Moi Over Standard Group Headlines

President William Ruto has renewed attacks on Gideon Moi over the recent Standard Group headlines criticizing the government of Kenya and President William Ruto.

Speaking to a crowd in Sotik in Bomet County during the launch of a road, Ruto said that Standard Group should thank Moi because without him they would not have headlines.

“Kuna mwingine nilimuona juzi anasema ati ooh Ruto anafikiri yeye ni Moi, mimi nataka nimwambie kuemi na shukrani huyo Moi anawapatia headline ya bure kule Standard,” he said.

The President’s remarks came days after he had also criticized the media house over its coverage of his administration, accusing some sections of the press of giving prominence to negative headlines about the government.

Bomet Event

During the Sotik event, Ruto maintained that his administration remained focused on implementing development projects across the country despite criticism.

He said the government would continue rolling out infrastructure, education, health and economic programmes aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.

Additionally, the Standard Group has in recent weeks published several front-page headlines scrutinizing government policies and political developments, drawing reactions from leaders across the political landscape.

Ruto’s latest comments suggest the newspaper’s editorial approach has become part of the political contest between his administration and opposition with the President arguing that references to Gideon Moi continue to provide the publication with prominent headlines.

Gideon Moi, the chairman of KANU and son of former President Daniel arap Moi, has previously criticized President Ruto’s leadership, with the two leaders exchanging political jabs on various occasions.
