President William Ruto was moved to tears on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after a young girl recited a poem highlighting the struggles facing her family.

The emotional moment happened during Ruto’s development tour of Bomet County, where the girl addressed the President before delivering her poem.

“Wapi Tutam ya Babu William? Mwekee juu mikono,” she said before introducing her poem.

The young girl then told the President that he should not be distracted by the different names he is called by his critics, including “Zakayo” and “Wantam.”

She urged Ruto to continue working and leave the criticism to God, saying that God sees his efforts.
However, the mood changed when she spoke about her mother’s struggles.

“Mamangu anateseka!” the girl told the President.
Ruto became visibly emotional and wiped tears from his face as he listened to the young girl.

The moment quickly drew attention, with Kenyans sharing different views about the President’s emotional reaction.

President Ruto Bomet Development Tour

The emotional encounter came as Ruto began a four-day development tour of the South Rift region, starting with Bomet County.

During the tour, the President launched, inspected and commissioned several development projects across the county.

Ruto inspected the construction progress of 220 housing units and officially handed over keys to the new homeowners after the completion of the units.

He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new modern market hub, which is expected to improve trading facilities for residents.

The President further inspected ongoing upgrading and rehabilitation works at the Chepalungu Airstrip.
Ksh 19 billion road investment.

Ruto also launched the tarmacking and bitumen upgrading of major roads in Bomet.
The projects include the Kapkatet-Boito-Siongiroi road axis and urban link roads within Bomet town.

The President said the national government has committed Ksh19 billion to upgrade more than 380 kilometres of roads across Bomet County.

He also commissioned electricity connectivity in Bomet East as part of a wider Ksh2.8 billion power grid expansion project aimed at connecting more rural households to electricity.

Ruto further commissioned a newly completed medical facility as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare.

He also officially opened the new Bomet County Assembly chambers and addressed members of the county assembly.The President’s programme also included public rallies where he engaged directly with residents.

Kenyans React to Emotional Moment

The young girl’s words and Ruto’s reaction sparked mixed reactions online.
Anwar Sadat argued that the girl’s experience reflects the struggles of many Kenyans.

“Sio mama yake tu, that is the reality of 85% of Kenyans who say the country is on the wrong direction,” Sadat said.

He questioned the irony of the President becoming emotional over a situation that critics say is affecting Kenyans under his administration.

Anthony also criticised the emotional moment, saying Kenyans should not be distracted by what he described as political scripts.

“Msidanganywe….Tumemzoea na hizo scripts,” he said.

He added that if parents suffering under the current economic conditions were to meet the President, he wondered how many times Ruto would have to cry in a day.

Ochoo similarly argued that the girl’s situation represents the struggles of millions of Kenyans.“I don’t know who will tell Ruto that this girl is 98% of Kenyans sio mama yake tu,” he said.

Mzee Ojwang’ said many Kenyans were struggling without platforms to share their grievances.

“There are millions of Kenyans going through this courtesy of reckless [leadership] in government but have no platforms to air their grievances,” he said.

Not everyone criticised the President. Samwel Wekesa praised Ruto and expressed support for his leadership.
