Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has welcomed the introduction of the liquor pay digital platform, saying that the system is already helping the county to seal revenue leakages while making the process of obtaining liquor licenses easy.
Speaking during a meeting with officials from the county’s Business and Hustler Opportunities sector, Governor Sakaja said the new system has improved efficiency and has increased license applications within a short time after the launch.
According to Sakaja, 1000 or more licenses were issued in February, just a month after liquor pay was launched.
” The liquor pay system continues to seal revenue leakages in liquor business licensing. We have also seen an increase in the licence uptake in the month of February, with over 1000 licenses issued, which is a significant improvement just a month after the launch of the liquor pay system,” Sakaja said.

Digital Licensing
Business and hustler Opportunities CEC Anastacia Nyalita said the platform allows entrepreneurs to apply and pay for liquor licenses online without visiting physical offices.
She explained that the move is supposed to reduce bureaucracy while giving business owners a faster and even more transparent way of acquiring permits.
“You don’t have to pay anyone to process registration for you. LiquorPay is a fully digital platform that allows business owners to apply and pay for liquor licences online,” Nyalita explained.
She added that the system put in place is expected to boost county revenue much like the existing Unified Business Permit, which merged multiple licenses into one.

Transparency for Entrepreneurs
Chief Officer Lydia Mathia said the system replaces the previous manual process that required several inspections and approvals before a licence was issued.
The new approach, she noted, eliminates hidden costs and middlemen that previously slowed down applications.
With liquor pay, business owners can log into the portal and submit their application, make payments online, and print their licence once approval is granted.
