Kenya Met Lists Areas Expected to Receive Heavy Rainfall Over the Next 5 Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has listed areas expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next five days amid flooding reported in some parts of the country since the beginning of March.

In its forecast published on Friday, March 14, 2026, Kenya Met released a five-day weather outlook covering the period between March 14 and March 18, highlighting regions likely to experience heavy rainfall.

According to the weatherman, rainfall is expected to continue in a few parts of the country, with isolated heavy rainfall events likely to occur in some areas of the southern Rift Valley.

Kenya Met Lists Areas to Receive Heavy Rainfall

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley region, Kenya Met predicts that mornings will mostly experience sunny intervals except on Saturday, March 14, when rains are expected in a few places.

Afternoons in these areas are expected to experience showers and thunderstorms in a few places, while nights will have a chance of showers over some areas except on March 16 and March 18 when conditions will be partly cloudy.

Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Surroundings

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its surrounding areas, Kenya Met forecasts that mornings will mostly be cloudy, breaking into sunny intervals, except on Saturday, March 14, when rains are expected in a few places.

Afternoons in the region will mostly experience showers over a few areas, although some days will have sunny intervals. Nights will largely be cloudy, with occasional showers in some places.

Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

In the South-Eastern lowlands region, which includes Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, mornings are expected to be dominated by sunny intervals except on March 14 and March 15 when rains may occur in a few areas.

Afternoons in the region are likely to experience showers over a few places, while nights are expected to remain mostly cloudy.

North-Western region

In the North-Western region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, Kenya Met forecasts sunny intervals during the mornings and afternoons throughout the forecast period, while nights will be partly cloudy.

In the North-Eastern region, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, mornings and afternoons are expected to experience sunny intervals throughout the forecast period, with nights remaining partly cloudy.

Meanwhile, in the Coast region comprising Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties as well as the Tana Delta, mornings are expected to experience a chance of showers over a few places. Afternoons will largely have sunny intervals, while nights will be partly cloudy.
