The National Police Service has intensified the search and rescue operations across the country, after the devastating floods caused by the ongoing heavy rains in the country.
In a statement issued on March 15, the police say the number of people who have lost their lives due to the floods has risen to 66 as the relevant authorities continue to respond to emergencies in the affected areas.
According to the police, the people who were killed by the floods include 50 men, 8 women, and 8 children. Nairobi has recorded the highest number of deaths, currently at 33, making it the most affected area so far.
The eastern region follows with 18 fatalities, while the Rift Valley has reported 8 deaths caused by the floods.

Other regions have also recorded casualties, like Nyanza has reported 4 dead people, while the coast region has recorded 2. The central region has reported 1.
Police say the floods have also displaced more than 2,000 families, with their various homes, roads and other infrastructure being destroyed in other parts of the country.
The police noted that the search and rescue operations are being conducted through a multi-agency response, bringing together different government agencies and emergency teams to assist the affected communities.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain cautious as heavy rains continue in several regions.

Police have advised the residents to follow weather updates and safety precautions issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department and other government agencies.
The police told the public that response teams remain to be on the ground and ready to handle emergencies in distressed situations following the heavy rains which are causing floods in the country.
Members of the public have also been advised to report emergencies at their nearest police station or through their toll-free numbers 999, 911 and 112 as rescue operations continue in the flood affected areas.
