Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made his first public appearance following widespread claims that he had been killed.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, March 19, 2026, Netanyahu directly addressed the rumours, dismissing them.
“First of all, I just want to say I’m alive, and you’re all witnesses,” he said.
He described the reports as “fake news” before shifting focus to Israel’s ongoing military operation, dubbed Operation Roaring Lion, targeting Iran.
Netanyahu said the operation is aimed at eliminating what he termed as major threats posed by Iran, including its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
According to Netanyahu, the operation has three main objectives: eliminating Iran’s nuclear threat, dismantling its ballistic missile programme, and creating conditions that would allow the Iranian people greater control over their future.
He further claimed that Israeli and allied forces had made significant progress, stating that Iran’s missile stockpiles, launch systems, and military infrastructure had been heavily weakened.

Netanyahu also stressed close coordination with the United States, praising Donald Trump for his leadership and support.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, America and Israel are acting together with great determination and unprecedented strength,” Netanyahu said.
He dismissed claims that Israel had pressured Washington into the conflict, insisting that decisions were made independently by the U.S. administration.
In his remarks, Netanyahu accused Iran of destabilising the Middle East and threatening global security, citing attacks on multiple countries and strategic interests across the region.
The press conference comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing military exchanges between Israel and Iran, as well as an increase in misinformation online regarding the status of key political figures.
For the better part of Friday, March 13, 2026, posts circulating on social media claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had died following Iranian missile strikes.
The unverified reports alleged that Netanyahu was killed alongside his brother, Iddo Netanyahu, after missiles struck their residences.

Other claims suggested he died during early morning strikes on Sunday, March 9, together with Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Speculation was also fueled by the online activity of Yair Netanyahu, the Prime Minister’s eldest son, who is active on social media and frequently comments on political developments.
Some users noted that his X account had not posted for several days, which they linked to the circulating rumours.
