Former Minister for Foreign Affairs and former Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has been rushed to the ICU at Karen Hospital as his condition worsens.

Tuju was being treated in custody by doctors at a facility inside the Karen Police Station.

The former Jubilee Secretary General was expected to be arraigned in Kibera Law Courts, where he is being charged with giving false information.

His lawyers had earlier said he was in a lot of pain and had been injured during his arrest. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru claimed that police officers forcefully pushed Tuju into a car before he could be booked in the Occurrence Book (OB) at the station.

He said this worsened a back injury Tuju got in a serious accident about two to three years ago.

Njiru added that Tuju has a spine problem and had surgery before, where plates were inserted. He said the handling affected several discs and made the condition worse.

Lawyers then called doctors from Karen Hospital to check on Tuju at the police station, and an ambulance was requested to take him for further treatment.

Tuju is being specifically charged for giving false information to a person employed in public service, contrary to Section 129(a) of the Penal Code.

DCI Claims Tuju’s Disappearance Was Stage Managed

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) alleges that Raphael Tuju told police, through Chief Inspector Purity Kobia, the OCS of Karen Police Station, that he had been tracked by unknown individuals and later abducted.

Authorities claim the report was false and was intended to prompt police action.

Raphael Tuju was reported missing on March 21, 2026, after his car was found abandoned in Karen, Nairobi. His family raised fears of abduction.

He resurfaced on March 23 at his Karen home, claiming he had gone into hiding after being followed by unknown individuals. However, he was arrested shortly after recording a statement at Karen Police Station.

Mohamed Amin, the DCI Director, said the disappearance was staged to mislead the public, adding that evidence showed Tuju never left his residence.

Tuju’s lawyers, led by Ndegwa Njiru, disputed this, saying he feared for his safety
