The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has issued a way forward regarding the fate of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the party’s Secretary-General.
While speaking at the Special Delegates Conference held at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, and while reading the resolutions of the Special Delegates Convention on Friday, March 27, 2026, ODM Acting Secretary-General Catherine Omanyo said the party will initiate the necessary internal processes in line with its constitution, following the decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal to have the matter handled internally.
“The Special Delegates Convention has taken note of the decision of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal in the matter of Senator Edwin Sifuna, and the relevant party organs will initiate the necessary internal processes in accordance with the party constitution and any relevant laws,” said the Acting Secretary-General.
She added that party discipline remains a cardinal responsibility for all members, regardless of rank or standing.
“Party discipline being a cardinal responsibility of all members, irrespective of rank and standing in the party, members should at all times be bound by the lawful decisions made by party organs from time to time,” she stated.
Omanyo noted that the Special Delegates Convention, held at the ASK Dome at Jamhuri Showground, adopted several key resolutions touching on the party’s leadership and future political direction.
Among them was the adoption, with amendments, of the National Governing Council (NGC) report on party leadership, which had earlier been endorsed during the NGC meeting held on November 13, 2025.

In addition, the delegates approved a proposal allowing the party leader to begin negotiations with like-minded political parties ahead of the next General Election.
The talks, she said, will initially involve engagement with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as part of efforts to form a possible pre-election coalition.
“The Special Delegates Convention endorses the proposal to have the party leader commence negotiations with like-minded political parties… for purposes of entering into a pre-election coalition agreement, and that any such agreement shall be submitted to this Convention for ratification,” she said.
The decision to refer Edwin Sifuna’s matter to internal party processes comes a day after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal ruled on a case filed by Sifuna challenging his removal as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General. The tribunal dismissed the senator’s urgent application.

The tribunal said it lacked jurisdiction because Sifuna had not first exhausted the party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) or Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism (ADRM), as required by law and the ODM party constitution.
It directed both Sifuna and ODM to attempt to resolve the dispute through the party’s internal processes in good faith.
Sifuna was removed as the Secretary General of the party, following the National Executive Committee (NEC) decision during a meeting in Mombasa on 11 February 2026.
