Blow to Sifuna as Court Dismisses His Bid in ODM Secretary-General Suspension Case

Former Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is facing a setback in his legal battle against the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) dismissed an application that he had filed under a certificate of urgency.

In the application, Sifuna had sought leave to cross-examine ODM’s affiant in a dispute linked to his suspension by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The PPDT declined the request and proceeded to hear the main application, where the senator is seeking orders to stop ODM’s Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) from hearing and determining the matter surrounding his suspension.

Sifuna said in his argument that the internal dispute resolution process should not proceed as the dispute is already before the PPDT.

Disciplinary Action Against Sifuna

The case comes from disciplinary action taken against Sifuna by ODM’s NEC, although details surrounding the suspension and the specific accusations against him have not been fully outlined in the tribunal proceedings made public so far.

The decision by PPDT to dismiss Sifuna’s application marks a temporary setback for him even as he continues to challange ODM’s disciplinary process through legal channels.
