Fear Grows as Iran Expands Missile Range, Putting Kenya at Risk

Share

Tensions between Israel and Iran continue to intensify following the outbreak of conflict in late February 2026, with both sides exchanging missile and drone strikes.

Recent reports that Iran may have attempted a long-range strike targeting a U.S.-U.K. military facility in Diego Garcia have further heightened fears over Tehran’s expanding missile capabilities.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Iran has made significant advances in its missile program, potentially extending its reach to approximately 4,000 kilometres.

In a statement shared on social media, the IDF said:

“The Iranian regime has intentions to develop missiles with a range of 4,000km, which pose a danger to dozens of countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.”

The IDF added:

“We have been saying it: The Iranian terrorist regime poses a global threat. Now, with missiles that can reach London, Paris or Berlin…”

East Africa Within Potential Strike Radius

In a related statement, Israel’s embassy in Nairobi indicated that Iran’s missile range could extend into East Africa, placing several major cities within reach.

The embassy explained that a 4,000-kilometre radius stretching from Tehran covers much of the Horn of Africa and parts of East Africa.

According to the embassy:

  • Addis Ababa lies approximately 3,200 km from Tehran
  • Mogadishu is about 3,700-3,800 km away
  • Juba sits just under 4,000 km
  • Nairobi is near the outer edge at roughly 4,300-4,400 km

The embassy noted that this geographical proximity places the Middle East and East Africa within a relatively close strategic corridor.

Growing Regional and Global Implications

Israeli officials have warned that Iran’s missile capabilities could extend beyond the Middle East, potentially reaching parts of Africa, Europe, and Asia.

These concerns come amid heightened tensions involving Iran and the United States, with analysts increasingly examining the evolving range and sophistication of Tehran’s missile programme.

A defense personnel while talking to the Guardian noted:

“What we are seeing is a gradual expansion in both range and capability, even if operational deployment remains uncertain.”

Iran Dismisses Allegations

Officials from Iran have rejected the claims, insisting their missile programme is defensive and limited in scope.

A statement from Iran’s diplomatic mission in Nairobi emphasized:

“Iran maintains peaceful relations with African nations and remains committed to regional stability.”

Tehran has also dismissed reports linking it to long-range strikes as exaggerated.

Kenya’s Position and Public Reaction

The warning has triggered mixed reactions across Kenya, particularly on social media.
