She Dreamed It, Lived It: Dona’s 12-Year Flight with Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways Assistant Flight Purser Dona has spent 12 years in the skies, building a career that spans domestic and international flights.

“All I knew was they traveled and went to other countries,” she recalled. Dona’s fascination with aviation began early.

Books such as The Life of an Airhostess fueled her curiosity, inspiring her to pursue the skies.

“I remember when I was in standard four, I wrote a composition about when I grew up, I wanted to be an airhostess,” she remembered.

These early ambitions laid the foundation for a career that now spans over a decade.

Overcoming Early Adversity

Her personal journey shaped her professional path. Reflecting on her childhood, Dona shared, “Losing parents is painful. I became an orphan at 9 years from there, I had to figure out life on my own.”

Despite the challenges, she remained focused on her dreams and steadily advanced through the ranks to her current role as Assistant Flight Purser.

Even with years of experience, Dona has faced tense moments during flights.

“One time we were on a flight going to Mombasa and just when we had taken off, we had to turn back because we had an engine failure. It wasn’t a beautiful experience,” she recounted.

“In as much as you have to look like we are going to be saved, deep down you are also not sure what is going to happen,” she added.
