Gachagua Breaks Silence After Goons Block Roads Leading to Kikuyu Ahead of His Visit

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence after alleged goons blocked sections of roads leading to Kikuyu ahead of his planned visit.

Gachagua is expected to attend a political rally in Kikuyu Constituency on Saturday, April 11, 2026, alongside a section of opposition leaders.

In a statement dated Saturday, April 11, 2026, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader accused the government of sponsoring the chaos, claiming the disruption was politically motivated.

Gachagua alleged that at around 5 a.m., groups of individuals blocked roads leading to Kikuyu using rocks, lit fires, and deflated tyres of trucks, leaving motorists stranded.

“For two hours they terrorised motorists and the police were nowhere to be seen. It was ordinary citizens who organised themselves, fought the goons, and restored order,” he said.

The former Deputy President further claimed that police officers delayed responding to the situation, only arriving after residents had intervened and restored order.

“The police only came at 9.30 am, pretending to act after citizens drove the goons out and restored normalcy,” he said.

Gachagua also made serious allegations against senior government officials, claiming that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo had a hand in coordinating the deployment of the alleged goons.

He further linked the developments to Kikuyu MP and Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, accusing him of opposing the planned rally and allegedly influencing efforts to disrupt it.

Despite the tensions, Gachagua maintained that the meeting would proceed as planned, urging his supporters to turn up in large numbers while stressing the need for peace.

“We are peaceful people who have held countless peaceful meetings elsewhere, including Kabete, and Kikuyu constituency is not an exception,” he said.

He also appealed to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to ensure that security agencies remain neutral and uphold their constitutional mandate of protecting citizens.

Gachagua’s statement comes amid rising cases of political lawlessness, where suspected goons have been disrupting or attacking political events.

Godfrey Osotsi, the Senator for Vihiga, was the most recent casualty after a group of youths allegedly attacked him at a hotel in Kisumu County.

Gachagua has repeatedly accused several senior government officials of working with goons to disrupt opposition meetings, particularly Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

However, Murkomen on Friday, April 10, while speaking at a funeral, defended the PS, saying: “Don’t blame my PS (Raymond Omollo). He is innocent.”

He challenged opposition leaders to openly denounce the goons and gangs they allegedly associate with during their meetings and rallies.

Murkomen accused the opposition of hypocrisy and shifting blame, while urging Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to crack down on political goons regardless of affiliation.
