The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has reduced fuel prices for the April–May pricing cycle.
The price drop comes after public uproar following a recent increase in fuel costs, where petrol had risen by Ksh 28 and diesel by up to Ksh 40.
In a statement, EPRA said the review follows a change in tax rates by the National Treasury.
“Pursuant to Legal Notice No. 70 dated April 15, 2026, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury has revised the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 13% to 8%,” the authority said.
EPRA has recalculated the maximum retail pump prices that will be in force from April 16, 2026, to May 14, 2026, taking into account the revised Value Added Tax rates.
As a result, the pump price per litre in Nairobi of Super Petrol & Diesel decreases by Ksh 9.37 & Ksh 10.21 per litre respectively, while that of Kerosene remains unchanged.
In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene now retail at Ksh 197.60, Ksh 196.63 and Ksh 152.78.
Consequently, the level of subsidy on Kerosene reduces from the current Ksh 108.10 to Ksh 96.56/litre.
