Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has given a warning to its wide-based political ally, United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
It warned the organization’s leaders for making what it termed ‘unwarranted public utterances’ that can cause a breach in the current coalition government arrangement.
In a press statement released after their Central Committee meeting, ODM noted with concern the potential destabilizing impact that such statements have on its members.
“This meeting noted with concern utterances made by some of our officials that may cause anxiety and disquiet among our members,” the Central Committee noted.
ODM emphasized its ideology and the need for respect, especially at this time when the party finds itself engaged in a discussion on the zoning of constituencies.
The meeting that was held on April 16, 2026, was the second sitting of ODM’s Central Committee in the year, preceded by another meeting on January 12.
It gave leaders the opportunity to discuss important matters relating to the party and national affairs.
“This Central Committee meeting was held today, to deliberate on some important issues affecting both our party and the nation,” the committee statement reads.
ODM announced plans to intensify efforts to strengthen its political base across the country, particularly in its traditional strongholds.
The party resolved to embark on a vigorous and rigorous exercise to popularize and strengthen our Party in all parts of the country, noting that its identity remains in the hearts of majority of Kenyans.
The committee also addressed the status of grassroots elections, which it said were largely successful.
“The exercise is 98 percent complete and we hope to have the few remaining areas have their election completed in the shortest time possible,” the statement said, urging members in affected regions to utilize internal dispute resolution mechanisms.
Additionally, ODM unveiled a nationwide youth engagement strategy aimed at revitalizing its support base ahead of the next general election.
The party will roll out a series of youth conventions in 25 counties, beginning with Nairobi on April 20, followed by Mombasa on April 26.
“These activities will be held in 25 counties, aimed at rejuvenating, revamping and re-energizing the Party,” the committee noted.
The Central Committee reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, promising transparent nomination processes for all elective positions.
“We shall conduct free and fair nominations and there will be no sacred cows for any position sought,” the statement read, adding that a digital portal for aspirants would soon be launched by the National Secretariat.

Party officials also praised the successful National Delegates Convention held on March 27 at the ASK Showgrounds in Nairobi, describing it as well-organized and incident-free.
“The meeting applauded the National Secretariat and the Organizing Committee for a well-organized event which began and ended without any incidents,” the committee stated.
On the national front, ODM raised alarm over the rising cost of fuel, acknowledging the global nature of the crisis but urging the government to do more.
“Kenyans are concerned about the increase in fuel prices; we continue to push ‘the government’ to do more to cushion Kenyans from the effects of this crisis,” the statement said.

The party also noted progress in implementing agreements reached under the bipartisan framework between ODM and UDA, particularly the NADCO report and the 10-point agenda.
It welcomed the allocation of Ksh 2 billion in the supplementary budget for compensating victims of police brutality during protests.
“We therefore urge the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to expedite this exercise and ensure all the affected families are compensated,” the committee said, emphasizing the need for timely justice and accountability.
In conclusion, the statement called for unity within its ranks and among supporters as it embarks on a new political campaign.
“It is important that our members and supporters remain focused and resolute, keeping the flame of the Party burning,” the ODM said.
