Gladys Wanga Hits Back at Gachagua Over Goons Claim Ahead of Linda Mwananchi Rally

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has rejected claims linking her to goonism, accusing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of spreading political propaganda and dragging the name of the late Raila Odinga into his allegations.

Speaking during the Wanga Nyakach Cultural Day & Women’s Empowerment event in Kisumu County on Friday, August 14, 2026, Wanga dismissed the claims as baseless, saying neither she nor the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has anything to do with plans to use goons or promote violence.

Wanga Hits Back at Gachagua

Responding to Gachagua’s remarks, Wanga challenged him to stop associating her name and that of the late Raila Odinga with what she described as divisive politics.

She accused Gachagua of invoking the late former Prime Minister’s name for political purposes despite, according to Wanga, having failed to establish a relationship with the Odinga family after his death.

“You have nothing in common with Baba Raila Odinga and as an ODM party, we have nothing in common with you. Hakuna siku tutaingia mahali Gachagua yuko kama chama ya ODM,” Wanga said.

Wanga also revisited remarks she attributed to Gachagua before Raila’s death, accusing him of making insensitive comments about the former Prime Minister at a time when ODM supporters were preparing for demonstrations.

She further claimed that Gachagua did not visit the Odinga family or offer condolences following Raila’s death.

‘We Are People of Peace’

Wanga maintained that ODM does not support violence, insisting that the party stands for peaceful political engagement.

She turned the goonism accusation back on Gachagua, accusing him of being associated with goons and warning him against bringing what she described as “goon politics” into ODM.

“Gachagua, you are the father of goons. We are asking you not to bring your goon matters here. We are people of peace,” she said.

Her remarks followed Gachagua’s allegations linking Wanga to plans to use goons, claims the governor strongly rejected.
