The High Court has suspended the recruitment of 10,000 police officers that was scheduled to start on October 1, 2025 to October 3, 2025.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that there is a court order barring the police recruitment across the country.
However, Murkomen believes that the court will lift this ban and pave way for recruitment exercise to kick off as planned.
“I am aware that there was a legal process in court and one of the judges has given an order to stop the recruitment process. I believe that this will be sorted,” he said.
Murkomen said he wished to make a call himself directly to judge to understand the current impact of this court order to police recruitment.
According to Murkomen, in the past four years court has never barred police recruitment exercise.
“I wish I could be allowed to call the judge directly to understand the consequences of a court order to the recruitment of police officers that has never happened for the last four years. How it is very critical for the safety of our country to recruit those police officers,” said Murkomen.
Murkomen felt that the judge is listening to his speech and will act swiftly on this matter.
He emphasized that Kenya needs new police officers so badly and the exercised should not be stopped.
“I hope that the judge will watch my speech so that I don’t need to call her and apply reason to make sure that the process is opened very quickly to ensure that our country can recruit the police officers they need so badly,” he said.
Many police officers worked and retired while others passed on in the line of duty and in various ways and they need to be replaced.
According to CS, police department needs new energetic police officers who will bring reliable support in the upcoming general elections.
“There are many police officers who have retired, some have passed on and we need to replace and bring energetic police officers who will be trained in time to even help us support the next elections,” he added.
