The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Isiolo Kirish (A2) road near the School of Military Engineering access road to facilitate reconstruction works on a damaged stretch of pavement.
In a public notice dated April 17, 2026, KeNHA said the affected section lies at kilometre 29+140 along the A2 corridor and will remain closed from April 17 to May 15, 2026.
The closure targets repairs on a failed pavement section between kilometre 29+140 and kilometre 29+300.
KeNHA explained that the works are part of ongoing efforts to restore the structural condition of the highway and enhance safety for motorists using the route.
The Isiolo Kirish road forms part of the strategic A2 highway linking central and northern Kenya and facilitates the movement of people, goods, and security operations in the region.
KeNHA has advised motorists who use the corridor to use the designated diversion routes, which were provided within the traffic management plan during the construction period.

Police officers and traffic marshals have been deployed at the site to guide road users through the diversions and maintain traffic flow around the affected section.
The closure is expected to affect traffic accessing the School of Military Engineering junction area, KeNHA told motorists to plan their journeys and follow directions issued on the ground to avoid delays.
KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli said the temporary closure is necessary to allow reconstruction of the failed pavement section and ensure the long-term functionality of the highway.
