The latest search statistics published by Google show the drastic change in the mode of learning by the Kenyan population, showing that there is a shift from the old model of acquiring knowledge to becoming experts in intricate technology skills.

Statistics from March 2026 show that Kenyans are actively adopting the use of artificial intelligence for technical training and automation.

The latest statistics reveal that there was an increase of 16,720 percent in the interest shown by Kenyans towards the adoption of AI agents, which ranks among the most remarkable increases seen in technology adoption anywhere in the region.

This shows that Kenyans have taken technology adoption to the next level, becoming “experts in technology to create and manage automation tools.”

Furthermore, the report shows that there has been an increase in technical literacy with an increase in searches relating to AI literacy by 1,010 percent compared to the previous year.

In the same vein, there have been significant increases in prompting tools, which are very important in the interaction with AI systems, at 1,230 percent.

These changes are taking place in a highly dynamic digital economy.

Furthermore, Public First industry research suggests that, “every one-dollar investment in digital technology in Kenya generates five dollars in economic value.”

These increased levels of connectivity translate into significant economic benefits for the country.

Based on the information provided, “an additional percentage point in internet access results in a 5.7 percent increase in GDP.”

Kenya’s Strategic Shift to an Agentic Future

The data ultimately points to a broader behavioral shift: Kenyans are moving from simple search queries to pursuing complex, goal-oriented learning strategies.

Smartphones are increasingly being used as full-scale educational platforms, effectively functioning as tutors, research assistants, and career coaches.

“Kenya is leading the way in the transition to an agentic era where technology acts as a 24/7 tutor and professional assistant,” said Nanjala Misiko, Group Product Marketing Manager for Consumer Apps in Sub-Saharan Africa at Google.

“The incredible growth in technical literacy and automated tools shows a nation that is actively shaping its future through intentional learning.”
