Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has declared parts of Marsabit County security-disturbed and dangerous for 30 days, while Inspector-General Douglas Kanja has banned civilians from possessing firearms in the same areas.

In a Gazette Notice dated April 24, Murkomen said the orders took effect on April 23, 2026, at 6:30 pm and will run for 30 days, as the government may extend or lift them through another gazette notice.

Murkomen issued the directive under the National Police Service Act after consulting the National Security Council, stating the move aims to curb rising insecurity and restore order.

The declaration covers several areas, including Hillo Gorgora, Hillo Orofa, Hillo Walkite, Hillo Tanzania, Hillo Irress Abamartille, Hillo Gootu, Hillo Tessum Qalicha, and Hillo Karray.

Others are Hillo Hudda, Hillo Qoranijido, Hillo Irress Shindia, Hillo Rabaalee, and Hillo Godde Haroressa.

Authorities said the areas face security threats that require urgent intervention; however, the government did not detail the incidents but stressed the need for swift action.

Similarly, Kanja prohibited the possession of arms in all the listed areas where orders apply to civilians living or operating within the zones.

Kanja said police will keep the weapons in safe custody, and authorities will return them after the notice ends or is revoked.
