Kenya Railways Issues Directive to Passengers Amid Heavy Rains

Share

Passengers using the Madaraka Express have been urged by Kenya Railways to arrive at their respective stations at least one hour before departure, following ongoing heavy rains being experienced across the country.

In a notice dated Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Kenya Railways said the directive is aimed at ensuring smooth travel and avoiding delays caused by traffic congestion and adverse weather conditions.

The advisory, issued under the Madaraka Express Passenger Service, comes at a time when many parts of Kenya are experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to traffic snarl-ups on major roads, particularly those leading to train stations.

“Due to the ongoing heavy rains and traffic snarl-ups, passengers are advised to arrive at their departure station at least one hour before the departure time indicated on their ticket,” the corporation stated.

“This will ensure a smooth and seamless experience during ticketing, security checks, and boarding. Kindly note that trains will depart strictly as scheduled,” the notice added.

Kenya Red Cross Gives Update on Ongoing Rains

The directive by Kenya Railways comes amid heavy rains being experienced in different parts of the country, which have already caused widespread disruption.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, heavy rainfall has led to flooding and fast-moving water across roads and homes in areas including Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Mombasa, Kwale, and Lamu.

In Nairobi’s Utawala area, three people were safely rescued after being stranded in floodwaters, while about 650 households have been affected in areas such as Jacaranda, Sisal, Milimani, Motomoto, and Riara.
