Residents of Ndia Constituency in Kirinyaga County live in fear as unknown individuals continuously raid and vandalize places of worship in the region.
Over the past two weeks thieves have reportedly broken into at least three churches in Riakania making away with electrical sounds systems, musical instruments, and even wine.
According to church leaders the thieves would enter the church premises at night after breaking windows and doors.

Pastor Peter Munene at the Fountain of Life Church International stated that the thieves capitalized on the rainy nights to make away with microphones, sound mixers, a keyboard and piano estimated to be worth more than Ksh 500, 000.
Munene said the absence of the electronics has negatively affected church service activities.
At St Joseph Riakania Catholic Church Vice Chairman Harrison Mbirui said that the thieves entered through the church main gate then broke into the church premises and stole numerous items which included sound mixers, microphones, piano among others which he estimates to be worth more than Ksh 200,000 and more than Ksh 250,000 worth of electronics.
He expressed surprise that the thieves also stole a bottle of wine used in communion.

The church leaders further expressed fears that such actions may be a step towards stealing other property or even stopping church services.
“We have informed Baricho Police station, but we are really concerned about how bold these thieves are becoming, and we request authorities to be on the lookout and highly vigilant,” noted Wambui, a leader at one of the raided churches.
One of the community members stated, “This has been the most worrying issue, and we fear our peace may be compromised during our church activities.”
Residents and members are concerned over this disturbing trend and have therefore appealed for help to bring to an end these repeated cases of theft
Police promised to be more vigilant and carry out a thorough investigation in to the incidences.
