The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued a clear message to Safaricom PLC regarding the imminent launch of the fifth season of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament.
In an official letter dated May 4, 2026, written to the CEO of Safaricom, the FKF, represented by its NEC, raised concerns over the validity of any deal made in respect of the competition without FKF’s consent.
The federation emphasized its constitutional mandate in overseeing all strategic, financial, and partnership decisions within Kenyan football structures.
“Following the recent announcement and planned launch of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Season 5, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) wishes to clarify that any agreement or partnership arrangement undertaken without the approval of the NEC is null, irregular, and contrary to the provisions of the FKF Constitution,” the letter states.
FKF pointed out that the NEC is the ultimate decision-making body in the federation, having the responsibility of endorsing all binding agreements entered into by the organization.
This assertion places the ongoing Chapa Dimba developments under scrutiny, particularly if procedural channels were bypassed.
“As the supreme decision-making organ of the Federation, the NEC is mandated under the FKF Constitution to approve all binding commitments entered into on behalf of FKF,” the statement reads.
“Accordingly, any such arrangements undertaken outside this framework fall short of the required governance standards and procedures,” FKF added.

FKF has called on Safaricom and any involved parties to exercise restraint and adhere strictly to established governance structures.
The federation insists that compliance with constitutional processes is non-negotiable in ensuring transparency and accountability.
“In light of the foregoing, we kindly urge restraint and emphasize the need for compliance with the Constitution and established approval processes to ensure alignment with the Federation’s governance framework,” the letter further states.

Although the language used was stern, FKF showed itself ready for constructive engagement once the governance issues have been sorted out.
NEC restated its commitment to building relationships that are transparent, accountable, and benefit everyone involved in football in Kenya.
“The NEC remains committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering strong, mutually beneficial partnerships. We look forward to a structured engagement once these matters are appropriately addressed,” FKF stated.
