The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has expressed its condolences to Nyando MP Jared Okello following the death of his mother, Mama Doris Okello.
ODM confirmed the passing of the family matriarch, who died on Monday night, May 4, 2026.
In a statement, ODM expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, emphasizing the emotional weight of the loss.
“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon. Jared Okello, MP for Nyando and a member of our National Executive Committee (NEC), following the passing of the family matriarch, Mama Doris Okello, last night,” the party said.
“We pray to God to guide the family and give them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time of grief. May the Soul of Mama Doris RIP,” ODM added in its message.
ODM calling her “the family matriarch” brings out her role and importance in her close environment.
ODM’s plea for God’s guidance through the mourning process follows the norms of society and culture where the community is supposed to come together during times of bereavement.
“We pray to God to guide the family and give them strength, comfort, and peace,” the statement added.

At the moment, the family hasn’t shared any information concerning funeral plans.
These are likely to be announced in good time, giving people an opportunity to bid farewell to their beloved.

Hon. Jared Odoyo Okello is the current member of parliament representing the Nyando constituency on behalf of ODM Party.
Okello is also a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of his party, putting him among the main organs of decision making in the political party.
Okello earned a Masters’ Degree at Kenya Methodist University from 2009 to 2011, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the same university between 2001 and 2004.
Other educational attainments of Okello include Diploma of Kenya Institute of Cargo Forwarders (1997-1998), KCSE at Awasi Secondary School (1993-1996), and KCPE from Nyilanda Primary School (1985-1992).

Prior to his election into parliament, Okello developed his career in the private sector as well as the non-governmental sector.
Between 2005 and 2017, he held the position of Director at Baptist Volunteers in Mission.
He played a role in development and humanitarian programs while there.
Previously, he had been working as a Sales Manager at Spinknit Dinis Limited since 2002 to 2005.
In 2017, Okello got elected as the Member of Parliament of Nyando, and he served there up to 2022 in the National Assembly.
The period between 2017 and 2022, he worked in various parliamentary committees such as the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee, Implementation Committee, and Special Funds Accounts Committee.
