ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga has resurfaced after staying out of the public eye for about two weeks, as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) maintains that he is in good health and remains within the country.
On May 8, 2026, the Siaya Senator appeared in a video shared on social media, where he showed himself in Kisumu spending time with friends while playing golf. His reappearance quickly reassured supporters who had grown concerned about his sudden silence in recent days.
“Thank you for your concerns about my whereabouts. I am here in Kisumu, up and about, playing golf and I want to wish all of you a very happy weekend,” Oburu said.
Meanwhile, ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale dismissed online speculation that linked the party leader to ill health or alleged travel abroad for treatment.
He emphasized that Oburu remains active in party affairs and will make a public appearance on Saturday. He added that the veteran politician continues to guide ODM as it prepares for the 2027 General Elections.
According to Etale, the party leadership remains stable and focused despite the rumours circulating online.

Earlier, Oburu’s absence from key ODM activities raised concern among supporters and political observers. For instance, he missed the party’s recent retreat in Mombasa, which drew attention from both allies and critics.
As a result, his silence fueled speculation across social media, with some reports claiming he had travelled abroad for specialized medical attention. These claims spread quickly and triggered widespread concern, especially among ODM supporters who questioned his sudden disappearance.

However, ODM moved swiftly to dismiss the reports and restore confidence. Etale assured the public that Oburu only took time away from the spotlight and remains fully engaged in party matters.
In addition, he reiterated that the Siaya Senator continues to shape the party’s direction as it builds momentum toward the 2027 General Elections.
He also confirmed that Oburu will appear in public on Saturday, where he will engage citizens at the alma mater of his late father. The planned appearance is expected to further calm concerns and reaffirm his active role in the party.
“The reports that he is unwell or missing are not true. He is okay, and tomorrow you will see him at the alma mater of his late father speaking and engaging with the public,” Etale said.
