Residents of Kocholia in Teso North Sub-county are shocked after a tragic road accident claimed the life of a pregnant woman while her unborn baby miraculously survived.
The accident is said to have taken place on May 10, 2026, night near a bridge along the Kocholia area after the woman was allegedly hit by a speeding long-distance truck as she walked home.
According to an eyewitness on the scene, the truck was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it hit the woman before speeding off from the scene.
The impact of the accident is said to have caused severe injuries that led to the woman’s immediate demise.
In a shocking turn of events, the unborn baby, who was estimated to be seven months old, was reportedly found alive at the scene.
Residents and police officers who responded to the incident rescued the infant and rushed her to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital for emergency treatment.

The baby, who is now being referred to as Baby Sharon, has drawn attention from residents who described her survival as extraordinary given the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Hospital social worker Oscar Omanyala said the infant sustained a broken arm during the accident and later developed anaemia while receiving treatment in the hospital.
Omanyala noted that doctors recommended specialised medical attention.
This prompted the child’s transfer to Busia County Referral Hospital on May 13, 2026, for a blood transfusion and further care at the Newborn Unit (NBU).
Omanyala appealed to well-wishers to support the child with baby clothes, diapers, milk and other basic supplies as she continues receiving treatment.
Police said the identity of the deceased woman has not yet been established.
However, medical documents recovered from her belongings indicated that she may have been living in the Malaba border area, either on the Kenyan or Ugandan side.
