The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has rolled out a new discounted entry programme for students and schools across the country. The initiative runs from March 1 to July 31, 2026, and targets learners from nursery level to university. It aims to make wildlife education more affordable and accessible.
Under the new rates shared to hivileo.co.ke, students will now pay less when visiting major parks such as Amboseli and Lake Nakuru. Entry fees for these premium parks have dropped by 33 per cent, from Ksh 750 to Ksh 500.
“Offers are exclusively valid for schools and students From Nursery school through tertiary institutions, including universities. Valid from 1st March – 31st July 2026. T&Cs Apply,” KWS stated.
KWS has also reduced entry fees for Nairobi and Tsavo National Parks. The cost now stands at Ksh 400, down from Ksh 500. This reflects a 20 per cent reduction.
As a result, more schools can now plan excursions without facing high park entry costs. The agency expects increased student visits under the new pricing structure.
KWS has also revised charges for school transport. Buses with 25–44 seats will now pay Ksh 3,000, down from Ksh 4,500. On the other hand, buses with 45 or more seats will also pay Ksh 3,000, reduced from Ksh 5,000.
In addition, schools will benefit from group incentives. For every 100 paying students, 10 will enter free of charge. At the same time, KWS will allow up to three teachers or minders per school to enter for free. Children under six years will continue to access the parks at no cost.
KWS has also introduced a 10 per cent discount on entry fees every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The offer applies to all parks, reserves, and sanctuaries managed by the agency.
Through this move, KWS seeks to encourage more weekend visits. It also aims to promote wildlife learning beyond classroom settings.
The campaign, branded “Ji-achile in Kenya Parks,” encourages schools to explore Kenya’s natural heritage while managing travel costs.
The announcement comes shortly after the National Museums of Kenya (NMK) introduced higher admission fees across museums and heritage sites. The new charges took effect on May 7 under the National Museums and Heritage (Admissions Fees) Regulations of 2025. Some sites recorded nearly triple increases.
Against this backdrop, KWS’s discounted programme offers relief for schools planning educational trips.
