Chesumei Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Biego has spoken out after his truck, worth more than Ksh 20 million, was torched during fuel hike protests in Naivasha on May 18, 2026.
The truck, an Actros 3340, had reportedly delivered flour from Eldoret to Kanini Haraka Wholesalers before it was attacked and destroyed amid the protests.
In a statement, Paul Biego described the destruction as devastating, saying the vehicle symbolized years of sacrifice and hard work.
“Imagine the sheer heartbreak of watching years of your life’s work vanish in a single moment of lawlessness,” he said.
According to Paul Biego, the truck was allegedly targeted because it was identified as coming from Eldoret in the North Rift region.
He further alleged that there appeared to be a coordinated effort to target vehicles and trucks from the North Rift during the unrest.
Additionally, Paul Biego said the destruction of property during the protests had left many families vulnerable and wiped out years of investment and labor.
“In a single flash of senseless violence, livelihoods have been shattered, families have been left vulnerable, and the dreams and sweat of so many people have been reduced to nothing but smoke and ashes,” he stated.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the torching incident or announce any arrests linked to the destruction of the truck.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions and demonstrations linked to rising fuel prices, with several cases of vandalism, property destruction, and clashes reported in different parts of the country.
During yesterday’s protest in Thika, a Mazda CX-5 belonging to Priscilla Larweh Martey, an aspirant for the Kilimani Ward MCA seat on the ruling UDA party ticket, was torched.

According to reports, angry protesters cornered her after spotting a UDA flag inside the vehicle before setting it ablaze.
However, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that they are pursuing prime suspects linked to another vehicle torching incident along Thika Road during the protest.
The DCI also urged members of the public who may recognise individuals captured in the footage or possess information that could aid investigations to report to the nearest police station.
