Togo Announces Visa-Free Access for Africans Under New Regional Policy

Togo has announced visa-free entry for all African nationals holding valid passports in a move to boost regional integration and cooperation across the continent.

According to a press release dated May 18, citizens of African countries holding valid national passports can now enter Togolese territory without a visa for stays of up to 30 days.

“The Minister of Security informs both national and international public opinion of the decision taken by the President of the Council to grant, effective today, Monday 18 May 2026, visa exemption for entry into Togolese territory for all nationals of African states holding a valid national passport,” read part of the release.

The Ministry of security stated that the reform reflects a long-standing commitment to promoting African integration, easing the free movement of people and goods, and strengthening cooperation among African states.

Togo Abolishes Visa Entry Requirements for Africans

Authorities further stated that the decision aligns with Pan-African ideals, continental solidarity, and existing regional agreements on mobility and integration.

Despite the visa exemption, the government clarified that travelers must still comply with entry procedures.

“The Minister of Security reminds the public that the visa exemption, for a maximum duration of thirty (30) days, does not waive compliance with security, immigration, and public health requirements applicable for entry into the national territory,” read part of the notice.

All visitors are required to complete a travel declaration via the official government platform at http://voyage.gouv.tg at least 24 hours before arrival.

Upon completion, travelers will receive a travel slip that must be presented at border entry points.

Additionally, Officials highlighted that this requirement remains mandatory and serves as both an administrative and security measure.

Togo Issues Security and Immigration Conditions

The Ministry of Security also noted that the visa exemption does not override existing immigration, security, and public health regulations.

Authorities also warned that provisions relating to irregular entry, illegal stay, and national security enforcement remain fully applicable under the law.

Meanwhile, relevant agencies have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the new directive across all land, air, and sea entry points.

The Minister of Security also urged stakeholders to support the reform, describing it as a key step in strengthening Togo’s leadership in African cooperation and integration.
