The British High Commission in Nairobi confirmed that a letter circulating on social media was fake and not linked to the UK government.
The document claimed to originate from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and quickly triggered online debate due to its formal style and political references.
The letter was addressed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and claimed to respond to a request for a meeting with the UK Prime Minister’s Office.
It also contained references to Kenya’s 2027 political environment, which fuelled speculation and confusion across social media platforms.

UK Government Distances Itself and Warns on Misinformation
The High Commission distanced itself from the document and confirmed that it did not originate from any official UK government channel. It stated that the content did not reflect any diplomatic communication and urged the public to treat it as fabricated material.
The forged letter also carried branding linked to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. However, officials clarified that official appearance and language did not make it authentic.
“The British High Commission Nairobi confirms that this letter circulating on social media is fake. If it were real, it would probably be stained with spilt tea,” the Commission clarified.
The statement reinforced the need for caution when engaging with viral political documents online.
Authorities also urged the public to verify information before sharing it further. They warned that misleading documents often spread quickly and influenced public opinion, especially during politically sensitive periods.

He is engaged in ongoing constitutional and legal processes challenging his removal from office, with court proceedings shaping the final outcome.
