Kidero Ja Suba Arrested Over Viral Remarks After Ruto Security Breach in Kilifi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of a vocal Bunge la Mwananchi supporter, Kidero Jasuba, linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement over alleged inflammatory remarks related to President William Ruto’s recent security breach in Kilifi County.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 27, the DCI said detectives arrested 33-year-old Evans Onyango Kawala, popularly known as Kidero Jasuba, following remarks that reportedly went viral on social media.

According to the DCI, the suspect was apprehended at the Shujaa Mall area in Kayole during an operation carried out by officers from the Operations Support Unit (OSU).

The agency stated that the content shared online was considered highly inciteful and posed a threat to public cohesion and national stability.

“Kawala is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” read part of the statement.

Orengo Raises Concerns Over Arrest of Kidero Jasuba

The arrest comes hours after Siaya Governor James Orengo raised concerns over the activist’s whereabouts after reports emerged that he had allegedly been abducted by unknown individuals believed to be security officers.

Orengo had questioned the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and called for transparency from security agencies.

“You can abduct a critic, but you cannot chain the spirit of defiance. We demand his immediate and unconditional release!” said Orengo.

The activist is known in online political spaces and among Bunge la Mwananchi supporters for his outspoken political commentary and criticism of government actions.

Following the arrest, the DCI warned Kenyans against making public statements or sharing content that could incite violence, spread hatred, or undermine national unity.

The agency stressed that such actions amount to serious offences under Kenyan law and promised firm legal action against offenders.

“The DCI cautions the public against making public utterances or disseminating content that incites violence, spreads hatred, or undermines peace and national unity,” the agency stated.

Remarks After Kilifi Security Breach

Kawala’s remarks went viral shortly after a security breach during one of President Ruto’s public events in Ganze, Kilifi County, on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

During the incident, a man managed to reach the presidential dais and briefly interrupt the Head of State, raising fresh concerns over presidential security.

Following the incident, Kawala allegedly made remarks suggesting that if he had been in a similar position, he would have confronted the president more aggressively.

“Ruto, if I had gotten the same chance as that young man from Kilifi, I would have dealt with you once and for all,” said the Bunge la Mwanachi supporter.
