Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has given the man who bypassed President William Ruto’s security in Kilifi County a job, leading to a debate about responsibility and standards of presidential security.
Photos showed the man beside the KPA’s Captain William Ruto on May 25, a day after the incident.
In the photos that went viral, the man was seen beside the KPA official looking happy in what looked like an office, smiling after having been handed the job.
KPA had yet to reveal the position or the manner in which he was hired by Monday evening.

Ruto Kilifi Security Breach and Investigation
The man previously had run towards President William Ruto in Bamba, Kilifi County on May 24, suddenly surging from the crowd while Ruto was addressing a gathering there.
He momentarily breached the Presidential security but was quickly tackled by security officers who engaged him in a tense confrontation while onlookers watched.
The man had apparently bypassed four layers of security to get to the President.
The President’s Escort Unit, National Intelligence Service (NIS), General Service Unit (GSU) and the National Police
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja later issued a directive ordering immediate changes within the unit providing presidential security.
“I have ordered immediate changes to the security detail responsible for the President’s protection,” Kanja stated, adding the issue was a matter of national security.
“The security of the Head of State is a matter of national security and will be treated with the utmost seriousness,” Inspector General Kanja directed as he launched a special unit to investigate the breach and make recommendations on subsequent actions.

Ruto’s Comments About the Incident
President Ruto had also commented on the incident.
“Nitashughulikia huyo kijana. Ni kijana mzuri, hana shida. Nafikiri amejifunza kutoka kwa yule kijana wa Fikirini Jacobs kwamba nafasi ikipatikana asiipoteze,” stated the President.
Kenyans argue that offering the man a job so soon after the incident undermines the integrity and security of presidential protection.
