The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has challenged President William Ruto’s government and Members of Parliament to facilitate a robust public discussion on Kenya’s internationally supported public health initiatives, particularly those related to Ebola, following concerns over the proposed construction of an Ebola-related facility in Laikipia County.

During a meeting with supporters at the Kirembe rally in Kisumu on Sunday, May 31, 2026, ODM leaders said there is a need to separate facts from misinformation and political rhetoric in matters of public health.

ODM also directed Seme MP and Chair of the Health Committee, Hon. Dr. James Nyikal, to immediately initiate a parliamentary inquiry into the matter through the Health Committee.

“We call for a robust debate, education, and input on Kenya’s internationally backed public health programs, with particular focus on Ebola, to weed out misinformation, disinformation, and politics on health issues. We call for the Chair of Health Hon. Dr. Nyikal to immediately initiate a Parliamentary inquiry into this matter through the Committee of Health,” ODM said.

ODM Stresses Political Unity

The rally also reaffirmed the party’s position as the primary political vehicle for the region.

“The people of this region are one indivisible and united people and any engagement present and future can only be through their Party ODM,” ODM declared.

At the same time, the party emphasized loyalty to its current leadership structure.

“ODM leadership is steadfast under the Party Leader Dr Oburu and remain strongly committed in support of the decisions of the SNDC and Central Committee, NEC and call for unequivocal adherence to Party resolutions including confirmation of our PL, Dr Oburu Odinga, Deputy Party Leaders Gov. Simba Arati, Abdulswamad Shariff, and Party Chair Gov. Gladys Nyasuna Wanga,” ODM emphasized.

We call for full implementation of the 10 point agenda in particular the question of compensation of victims of post election violence,” ODM stated.

Tribute to Raila Odinga

The party also paid tribute to its former leader, emphasizing his enduring legacy within ODM and the wider Luo community.

“The Luo Community appreciate the role, place and statute of our departed Party Leader and hero the Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga. We remain committed to his vision and commitment to social democracy, rule of law, commitment to devolution and promotion of County Government. We remain forever grateful and commitment to his idea,” ODM said.

Concerns Over Economy and Fuel Crisis

On the state of the economy, ODM acknowledged the financial difficulties facing many households.

“We remain cognisant of the present economic challenges facing Kenyans in particular fuel crisis and remain hopefully that the Government will step up the intermediary measures and interventions it has put in place even as we wait for the war in the middle East to dissipate,” ODM noted.
