Party leader and former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has confirmed that Daniel Kipchirchir Kirui, who is the party’s Baringo Senatorial by-election candidate, was found safe after going missing for 24 hours.
In a statement, the UMP Party Leader confirmed that Kirui has been found and narrated his ordeal to the Party.
“We can now confirm that after an agonizing almost 24 hours of being incommunicado, our candidate for the Baringo Senatorial by-election, Hon. Daniel Kipchirchir Kirui, has safely resurfaced. He has provided our party with a harrowing account of his ordeal,” Mwangaza said.
Mwangaza said Kirui confirmed that he and several other candidates were held against their will at an undisclosed location.
She stated that the candidates were tortured to force them to bow out of the race.
“In this covert facility, they were subjected to a coordinated campaign of intimidation, harassment, and outright bribery by powerful political operatives. The singular goal of this illegal operation was to coerce them into signing withdrawal documents from the senatorial race,” she said.
“We have been informed that, under this immense pressure, all other candidates have capitulated and withdrawn from the race.”

However, Mwangaza said the UMP remains undeterred since Kirui showed immense courage and integrity by refusing to bow to these corrupt and anti-democratic tactics.
“His resolve is unshaken, and his commitment to the people of Baringo is stronger than ever,” she said.

Mwangaza said the incident is no longer merely an allegation of intimidation but a confirmed case of political kidnapping and coercion.
She explained that it represents a direct and violent assault on Kenya’s democracy, designed to rob the people of Baringo of their right to a competitive election.
“The UMP and our candidate, Daniel Kipchirchir Kirui, will not be intimidated. We will continue this race on behalf of the people of Baringo who believe in democracy and justice. We stand firm,” Mwangaza said.
