Road to Glory Begins: World Cup 2026 Unveils Epic 104-Match Schedule Across North America
Share
The countdown to what will likely be the biggest FIFA World Cup in history has started.
This came after the release of the full fixture schedule for the 2026 tournament.
The big event is co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
It’ll be the first time that the competition grows from 32 to 48 teams.
With this expansion, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is gearing up to be massive, featuring a record 104 matches spread out over 37 days.
This sets the stage for the largest World Cup ever put on.
For Mexico, it means hosting World Cup matches thrice, making them the first to do so across three separate tournaments.
They’ve already held the World Cup twice, once in 1970 and then again in 1986.
Meanwhile, the US will be reprising their host role since they did an awesome job in 1994.
Lastly, Canada will join the fun by playing host for the very first time in the men’s tournament.
Football fans around the world can look forward to a month-long festival of elite competition beginning on June 11 and concluding on July 19.
The tournament opener will see hosts Mexico face South Africa at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, while the final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
England and Scotland are among the 48 nations set to battle for football’s most prestigious prize.
Historic World Cup Expansion Brings Record Number of Matches
The expanded format introduces 12 groups labeled A through L, each containing four teams.
Group stage will run from June 11 to June 27 before progressing to the newly introduced Round of 32 between June 28 and July 3.
The knockout rounds will then continue with the Round of 16 from July 4 to July 7, quarter-finals from July 9 to July 12, semi-finals on July 14 and July 15, the third-place playoff on July 18, and the final on July 19.
A total of 16 host cities across North America will stage matches, including Mexico City, Guadalajara (Zapopan), Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle, Atlanta, Miami, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Arlington, Santa Clara, Boston (Foxborough), and New York-New Jersey.
