A Nairobi boda boda rider working for an Uber service got caught up in what looks like a drug trafficking deal.

The Uber Boda rider had no clue that drugs were hidden in his food delivery.

The drop-off was between Kileleshwa and Kilimani.

Police set up a sting, nabbed a guy, and uncovered a likely cocaine trafficking crew.

They were using food runs as a cover.

The rider said the assignment appeared routine at first, involving a food delivery request from a woman he identified as Nigerian, with no indication of illicit activity.

“I had one of the craziest experiences of my life while working as an Uber boda boda rider. Today, I was waiting near an apartment block when I received a delivery request from a Nigerian lady. She told me she wanted some food delivered to someone in Kilimani. Since food deliveries are a normal part of my job, I didn’t think much about it,” the Uber Boda rider narrated.

Suspicious Delivery in Kilimani Raises Alarm

The rider explained that after collecting the package, he contacted the recipient, who confirmed the delivery instructions and location.

Upon arrival at the apartment gate, he was instructed to wait for the recipient to come down.

“When she arrived, she handed me a hotpot containing what appeared to be food and gave me the recipient’s phone number. I called the number, and the man on the other end confirmed that I should bring the delivery to an apartment in Kilimani,” the Uber boda rider said.

It was at this point that plainclothes officers from Kileleshwa Police Station approached him.

The officers reportedly informed him that they were acting on intelligence suggesting that narcotics were being transported disguised as food deliveries.

“A vehicle pulled up and several plainclothes officers approached me. They identified themselves as police officers from Kileleshwa Police Station and immediately started asking questions about the package I was carrying,” he said.

Police Intercept Hotpot Package During Surveillance Operation

The rider maintained that he remained unaware of any illegal contents and cooperated fully with the officers as they proceeded to inspect the delivery package.

“They told me they had received intelligence that drugs were being moved around disguised as food deliveries and wanted to inspect the hotpot. I even felt a little confident because I was sure they would find nothing suspicious,” he said

However, upon opening the container, officers allegedly discovered food items, including rice and chicken, but also a hidden wrapped package concealed within the meal.

“Inside were rice, chicken, and other food items. However, hidden among the food was a package wrapped in paper. The moment the officers found it, the atmosphere changed,” he added.

The rider was briefly questioned before officers became convinced he was not involved in the trafficking operation and instead agreed to use him as part of a controlled delivery.

Controlled Delivery Leads to Arrest of Suspect

Police reportedly instructed the rider to proceed with the delivery under surveillance, while officers positioned themselves nearby to monitor the final handover.

“After questioning me for a while, the officers seemed convinced that I genuinely didn’t know what I was carrying. They told me that if I cooperated, I would be helping them catch the people behind the operation,” the Uber rider narrated.

Shortly after, the recipient, a man described as Nigerian, approached the rider at the apartment gate in Kilimani and collected the package.

As he prepared to complete the transaction, officers moved in swiftly and arrested him on the spot.

“At that exact moment, the undercover officers moved in. Within seconds, they surrounded him, identified themselves, and placed him under arrest,” he added.

Rider Left Shocked but Cleared After Cooperation

Following the arrest, officers thanked the rider for his cooperation and confirmed that he had no involvement in the criminal activity.

He was also refunded his delivery fee before being allowed to leave the scene.

“Afterward, the officers thanked me for cooperating. They assured me that they understood I had no knowledge of the contents and that I was simply doing my job,” he said.

Despite being cleared, the rider said the experience left him shaken, as he reflected on how easily he could have been implicated in a serious narcotics case without awareness of the contents of the delivery.

“Although I was relieved to walk away without any trouble, the experience left me shaken. I kept thinking about how close I had come to being caught up in a serious criminal case,” he concluded.
