Sakaja Suspends Nairobi Planning Chief After EACC Recovers Ksh 65 Million at His Home

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has broken his silence following the arrest of a senior Nairobi County official after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reportedly recovered Ksh 65 million from his residence during an ongoing corruption investigation.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, 2026, Sakaja said the county government respects the ongoing investigations and will fully cooperate with the EACC and other relevant agencies.

The governor stressed that corruption has no place in public service and warned county employees that they will be held individually responsible for their actions.

“We wish to state that this is a legal process being undertaken by independent constitutional and investigative institutions. The County Government respects the rule of law and will fully cooperate with the EACC and all relevant agencies to facilitate the investigations,” Sakaja stated.

Analo Suspended by Governor Sakaja Over Ongoing Probe

He added that although the officer is presumed innocent until proven guilty, the county will not protect anyone involved in corruption.

Following the arrest, Sakaja has suspended Chief Officer for Urban Planning Patrick Akivaga Analo until investigations are completed.

During the suspension, Analo will not be allowed to enter his office or access any county documents or systems.

Dominic Mutegi, the Director of Development Management, has been appointed to replace Analo as the Acting Chief Officer for Urban Planning.

At the same time, Sakaja appointed Ibrahim Auma Nyangoya to serve in an acting capacity as County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning.

Governor Sakaja Orders Reforms in Planning Department

The governor announced major changes in the Urban Planning Department following the incident.

He ordered the immediate reconstitution of the Urban Planning Technical Committee, which is responsible for approving development projects in Nairobi.

The county has already asked several agencies and professional groups, including the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, planners, architects, engineers, resident associations and Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, to nominate representatives to the committee.

Sakaja also proposed that the EACC provide an officer to work closely with the committee and help members of the public with issues related to planning and development approvals.

In addition, all development approval applications have been suspended until the new committee is fully formed.

However, urgent cases will be handled by the County Executive Committee Member for Built Environment and Urban Planning, Patrick Mbogo, as provided for under the law.
