Chaos in School as Child Named After President Ruto Reportedly Nicknamed ‘Ruto Must Go’

A Kenyan mother has spoken publicly about the challenges her young son allegedly faces at school after naming him William Ruto in honor of President William Samoei Ruto.
The woman, identified as Naomi Diana, claims her child has become the target of teasing and ridicule from fellow pupils because of his name.
Naomi says she and her husband chose the name after President Ruto took office in September 2022.
However, what was once a source of pride for the family has reportedly become a source of distress for their young
The boy, who is currently enrolled in PP2, allegedly returns home from school on a regular basis, expressing reluctance to attend classes.
Naomi says he has repeatedly informed her that other pupils surround him during school parades and activities and chant political slogans directed at his name.
“My name is Naomi Diana, and I have been facing challenges since September 2022. When President William Samoei Ruto took office, I admired him so much that I named my son William Ruto,” she said.
Child Allegedly Targeted Over Ruto Name
She explained that the situation escalated after the child began attending school.
“Every day, he comes home and tells me, ‘Mom, I don’t want to go back there.’ When I ask him why, he explains that during school parades and other activities, other children surround him and chant ‘Ruto must go’ because of his name. He tells me that the children repeatedly shout the slogan at him, making him uncomfortable and afraid,” Naomi narrated.
The mother insists that neither she nor her husband has any intention of changing the child’s name despite the challenges.
“I cannot change my son’s name because I love President Ruto. My husband and I chose the name together because we both admire him. We were proud when we named our son William Ruto, and no one can convince us to change it,” she stated.

Family Claims Public Intimidation
Naomi further alleged that the teasing extends beyond the school environment, claiming that members of the public have occasionally commented on her decision to name her son after the President.
“Some people point at us in public and say, ‘That is the woman who named her child William Ruto.’ Even when I go to buy vegetables, people make comments about my decision,” she said.
The mother revealed that she recently decided to speak publicly after hearing reports of intimidation and attacks affecting individuals in different circumstances.
“I have asked for maximum security for myself and my son because I believe this issue could create serious problems for us,” Naomi stated.
She added that she raised the matter with her son’s class teacher, who reportedly promised to address the issue with fellow pupils.
Impact on Child’s Well-Being
According to Naomi, the constant teasing has had a noticeable effect on her son’s social life and confidence.
“Because of the constant teasing, my son often stays alone in class. He avoids joining other children because he fears they will start chanting ‘Ruto must go’ again. Most of the time, he hides from them. As a mother, it pains me to see him living in fear,” she said.
She explained that she has increased her involvement in her son’s studies at home in an effort to support him emotionally and academically.
“I noticed how frightened he had become, so I started spending more time helping him with his homework and studies at home. I want him to keep up with the school syllabus despite the challenges he faces,” she added.
Despite the situation, Naomi says her son has never expressed dissatisfaction with his name.
“My son has never complained about his name. He tells me that he is comfortable with it. Therefore, I do not understand why people have a problem with him being called William Ruto,” she remarked.

Appeal for Protection
Naomi maintains that her admiration for President Ruto remains unchanged and believes criticism of political leaders should not be directed at innocent children.
“I also believe that some people use this situation to intimidate not only my son but also President Ruto. Personally, I have never seen anything wrong with the President. If anyone believes otherwise, they should explain their reasons instead of directing their frustrations at an innocent child,” she said.
Concluding her account, Naomi revealed that her family now lives cautiously and plans movements carefully whenever they leave home.
“Today, my family lives with a lot of fear. We plan our movements carefully whenever we leave home. Despite everything, I remain fully committed to my decision. I am comfortable with my son being called William Ruto, and I stand by that choice without fear or regret,” Naomi said.
She ended with a direct appeal to the authorities.
“My only request to the government is simple: provide maximum security for my family and my son so that we can live peacefully and without intimidation,” Naomi concluded.
