Zimbabwean Tycoon Wicknell Chivayo Stuns Nairobi With Presidential-Style Security Convoy

Controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has sparked fresh attention after sharing a video showing the heavy security escort accompanying him as he moved around Nairobi.

The video shows several security vehicles traveling with Chivayo, while sirens can be heard as traffic is controlled along the highway.

The footage has attracted attention because of the businessman’s high-profile movements in Kenya and his close interactions with political leaders.

Chivayo has become a familiar figure around President William Ruto and other African leaders, prompting questions about his influence and the nature of his relationships with those in power.

Wicknell Chivayo Spends Time With Ruto

The security footage emerged around the same period Chivayo shared videos of his interactions with President Ruto during his latest visit to Kenya.

On August 11, Chivayo recorded himself with Ruto as the President drove him around his farm.

In the video, President Ruto explained some of the agricultural activities on the farm, including macadamia farming and livestock keeping.

“I will have here 400 acres, 158 acres for macadamia nuts. I have about 3,000 sheep,” Ruto said.

The President explained that the sheep also help manage the grass around the farm.

Chivayo then praised Ruto as a farmer while recording the President behind the wheel.

“So this is President Ruto, the farmer, His Excellency, but now I’m with a farmer who loves farming, while being driven in the farm,” he said.

Chivayo Praises Ruto’s Farming

Wicknell Chivayo later shared details of the visit on X, describing the afternoon with Ruto as “incredible” and “truly eye-opening.”

He said he had initially intended to say goodbye to the President before leaving Kenya but ended up spending the afternoon with him.

According to Wicknell, Ruto personally drove him around the farm after they had lunch.

He praised the President’s farming activities, including macadamia plantations, maize production and cattle ranching.

Wicknell Chivayo also highlighted the more than 3,000 sheep on the farm, saying they help manage the grass around the macadamia trees.

“Beyond being the President of the Republic of Kenya, President Ruto is an accomplished and passionate FARMER,” Chivayo wrote.

He said the farm reflected “planning, discipline and result orientated productivity”.

Chivayo further linked Ruto’s agricultural activities to his administration’s focus on food security.

The farm tour came a day after another unusual moment involving the two men.

On August 10, Chivayo shared a video of himself sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle as Ruto drove.

In the video, Chivayo appeared amused and surprised by the situation.

“Being driven by the President of the Republic,” he said before chuckling.

He then turned the camera towards Ruto and addressed him as “Your Excellency” before repeating: “Being driven by the President of the Republic.”

Chivayo ended the video by saying, “God is the greatest.”

In a post on X, he explained that Ruto had personally offered to drive him about three kilometres to a helipad where he had left his helicopter.

Chivayo said his wife was seated at the back while he sat in the front passenger seat.

“Imagine me sitting in the front PASSENGER SEAT with my wife at the back while the PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA, the HEAD OF STATE himself, was behind the steering wheel personally driving me to the chopper!!!” he wrote.

He described the short journey as one of the “most priceless” experiences of his life.

Why Chivayo’s Ruto Connection Draws Attention

Chivayo’s latest videos have once again highlighted the unusual level of access he appears to enjoy around African political leaders.

The businessman has made several visits to Kenya and has repeatedly shared photographs and videos of his meetings with Ruto at State House.

In June, The Standard described Chivayo as a businessman who “rubs shoulders with Presidents” and reported on his close relationship with Ruto.

His name has also featured in discussions surrounding a proposed expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after reports linked his company, IMC Construction Kenya, to a consortium involved in the project.

Kenyan government officials, however, have disputed some of the claims surrounding his alleged involvement in the JKIA deal.

Chivayo has also been photographed or reported meeting other African leaders, including Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa ,South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
